Early spring

We’ve had quite the heat wave in southern Minnesota lately–80 degrees in March is throwing us all for a loop. The tulips and chives have made their appearances, and I’ve been able to putter around outside during my spring break. I put together the hive boxes for my bees, and think that the goat pen is dry enough that I could clean it out soon without also removing all of the dirt there.

Two weeks ago we got ourselves a pair of feeder pigs as our first experiment in pork production. They are heritage breed mutts, and love having the opportunity to forage. We moved them into a larger pen today, and they have quickly been learning about how electric fencing works, while simultaneously rooting up my garden.

Here’s hoping spring is here to stay, even if it is a month early!
